Letter from Mr. Yushpal Gupta of London

Dear Mr. Shaikh,
After reading your article on mysticism,
I have come to the conclusion that you are a scholar of the Vedas. Can you,
please tell me if ahimsa (non-violence) is a part of the Vedic teachings.
Yours sincerely,
Yushpal Gupta Yush
Dear Mr. Yush,
Let me congratulate you for asking the question which
is vital to the survival of Hinduism as well as its adherents.
During my comparative studies of religion and
philosophy, I came to realise the beauty of the Rgveda. As a Punjabi I felt
ashamed that I had not read it earlier. Because of its antiquity and message,
this Book belongs to the entire Indian sub-continent and not just the Hindus.
The issue you have raised is at once daring and
delicate owing to its priority and pertinence; it requires a straight answer:
ahimsa is totally against the Vedic
Principle of Power, and therefore has no place in Hinduism.
